When you work at home it can be tempting to not spend quality time with your family and friends. You might think that you can get away with a little time after work, but you are wrong. The biggest time suck in the office could be your computer. Every second of the day there is something important going on online.
It can be tempting to use your computer as a time pass tool. This is especially true if your job lets you use your computer after hours and you have nothing else on. You might find yourself logging on several times during the day to play online games, chat with friends, or go to random forums. Even though you feel that you are getting some work done to it does not make the time worth it.
If you are not disciplined enough to set aside time for your personal life then your schedule will suffer. You will be so focused on getting work done that your family life will suffer. You need to stop putting so much importance into your work that you forget about family. If you are constantly taking time out of your day to chat with a friend or play online games instead of spending time with your family, it will start to wear on them. They will slowly start to drift further away from you.
In order to remedy this problem you must first get your act together. Work on finishing tasks one by one so that your work load does not build up too quickly. You should also learn to set aside time to do things with your family. Even if you only have a few minutes to talk on the phone with your daughter before you head off to work you should grab every opportunity you can to.
Having fun while you are working should be a given, but you need to realize that it is not always possible. When you are logged onto your computer, you should focus on playing some games or chatting with your friends on a social networking site. By distracting yourself for a little bit and not paying attention to the computer screen, your mind will be allowed to wander and this will allow you to be more productive. This does not mean though that you should completely forget about your family. You should check in periodically just to say hello and to catch up.
If you can manage it, try to set aside time during the day where you can just sit back and relax and let the phone ring. Some people find that setting aside thirty minutes to talk on the phone with their friends is very helpful. This is not because they want to talk to their friends, but because they find talking to their friends a relief from the stress of what they are doing. When you use your brain you will find that using your brain will help you deal with the stress better. The biggest time suck at the office might not be as bad as you think if you take some of these steps.
